About Us

A Nonprofit Academy Built to Transform Lives Through Education

Prodigy Hands Academy is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit educational organization based in Detroit, Michigan, dedicated to teaching the art and the business of professional hair braiding.

Our Mission

To equip individuals with knowledge, confidence and practical skills that create opportunities for personal and professional growth — through accessible, hands-on beauty education and community-focused initiatives.

Our Commitment to Community

As a nonprofit organization, Prodigy Hands Academy measures its work by the people it serves. We keep education accessible, we teach with care, and we make room for learners who have been overlooked — including individuals experiencing hair loss and the clients who seek compassion along with craftsmanship.

What We Stand For

01

Education

Structured, hands-on instruction that builds real skill and lasting knowledge.

02

Community Empowerment

We invest in the people around us, teaching skills that create opportunity close to home.

03

Accessibility

Programs designed to be welcoming and achievable for beginners and returning learners alike.

04

Confidence

Confidence is part of the curriculum — in the chair, in the classroom and in every client interaction.

05

Entrepreneurship

Students learn to build something of their own, with practical business and branding education.

Our Community Impact

Education That Empowers People and Strengthens Communities

Prodigy Hands Academy exists for a purpose larger than instruction. Every class we teach is an investment in confidence, dignity and economic opportunity — for the student in the chair, the client they will one day serve, and the community they both belong to. Our nonprofit mission is carried out through four ongoing initiatives.

01

Courage in Every Strand

Education and encouragement for individuals navigating hair loss — teaching students to serve clients with skill, sensitivity and genuine care.

02

Crown of Confidence

Confidence-building through craftsmanship: helping learners and clients see themselves with pride in what they create and wear.

03

Youth Education and Empowerment

Introducing young people to professional skills, discipline and creative expression — and to the possibility of a career they can build with their own hands.

04

Professional Skills and Entrepreneurship

Equipping adults with practical, marketable skills and the business education to turn them into sustainable income.

Meet Our Founder

LaQuila Fields

Certified Cranial Prosthesis Specialist · Beauty Educator · Entrepreneur · Nonprofit Founder · Author

LaQuila Fields is a Certified Cranial Prosthesis Specialist, beauty educator, entrepreneur, nonprofit founder and author. Her work sits at the meeting point of beauty and care — serving clients experiencing hair loss while teaching the professional standards behind the craft. As an educator, she is driven by a simple conviction: skill changes lives. When a student learns to braid with precision, professionalism and confidence, they gain far more than a technique — they gain a way to provide for themselves and to serve others well. Prodigy Hands Academy is the expression of that conviction: a nonprofit educational organization built to make professional beauty education accessible, and to turn knowledge into opportunity for youth and adults alike.

LaQuila Fields founded Prodigy Hands Academy as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit so that education, not circumstance, would decide who gets to build a career in this industry.
